A weather system that has caused headaches in the U.S. will leave in time for the weekend, but another weather maker will “cause mischief” in one area.
Are you thinking about taking a quick trip over this Memorial Day weekend? You won’t be the only person I’m sure! Although this year’s end of school looks different from most years, Memorial Day weekend still marks the start of summer for most families. Everyone is looking for a way to quick it off. Some will be barbecuing, attending memorial events, and others will be heading out of town. If you are looking for a quick getaway let’s talk about some things you can do to save money.
1. Pack Your Own Food
Tried and true this tip never fails to be the best I can give you. Stops at gas stations, grocery stores and restaurants on any trip is always where we spend the most money. I like to plan for one meal out a day and the rest we pack with us. Granola bars for breakfast, peanut butter and chips for lunch are fast and easy go-to meals. Fruit and snacks for in between.
2. Go Camping
Louisiana is full of great camping spots. Get out to a nearby campground, pitch a tent, go on a hike, enjoy the beautiful weekend. Most camping spots even have pools or lakes near by. Hiking and swimming might just be the most cost-efficient way to spend the weekend.
3. Check Your Points
Looking to stay in a hotel? Check the points and deals on your credit cards for a good deal. I would also look to see if you have any you can redeem for restaurant gift cards.
4. Stop at the Tourist Centers
These easy to find spots along the interstate are a treasure trove a coupons, great information and even free tickets. Stop in and check out what you can find.
TIP: If you’re traveling by car don’t forget to pack a few games for the kids so they don’t get bored.
